It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building. The authors of the ''Buildings of England'' series express the opinion that it is "an exceptionally fine timber-framed house". The house was built as a rectory in about 1470,〔 or in the late 16th century,〔 and a north wing was added in 1872. The house is timber-framed, and it retains its hall open to the roof.〔 Much of the timber framing is close studded and the roof is of plain tiles.
